TJ vs Edgewonk: two journals that take rules seriously

Edgewonk is a respected journal known for its focus on discipline and psychology, with tools such as Tiltmeter and an automated Edge Finder, all in one yearly plan. TJ shares the belief that your rules matter, and puts the check before the trade instead of only after it. Here is how they compare.

Free plan · No card needed · TJ is journaling software, not financial advice.

The short answer

Choose Edgewonk if you want one yearly price with every feature included, strong psychology and mistake analysis, a performance simulator and missed-trade tracking, and $197 a year suits you.

Choose TJ if you want your checklist to work live: a score out of 100, vetoes that block the trade, and a size that follows the grade. Add pre-filled prop-firm limits, chart replay and an economic calendar in the same app, and a free plan to try it on real trades.

Where Edgewonk is stronger

  • Yearly value. $197 a year for everything is more than TJ Silvy's planned $159 a year, and well above the $111.30 founding price for TJ's first year.
  • Psychology tooling. Tiltmeter, session report cards and missed-trade tracking go further into behaviour than TJ's mistake and emotion tags.
  • What-if testing. The trade management optimizer and performance simulator test different exits on your past trades.
  • Unlimited journals. Unlimited trades, journals and broker accounts in one plan, plus options and CFDs.

Where TJ is different

The grade comes before the click

In Rate It! you pick the strategy you wrote and tick its checks. TJ returns a score out of 100 and a grade from A+ to D. A veto, such as “Asian session” or “no liquidity sweep”, means no trade even when everything else lines up. Weaker grades get a smaller size. The grade is saved with the trade, so Review can later show your R by grade and tell you whether your A+ setups really beat your B setups.

Prop limits counted on every trade

Pick Topstep, Apex, Take Profit Trader, MyFundedFutures (Rapid and Rapid EOD), Tradeify Select, FTMO, FundedNext Stellar and The5ers High Stakes and your account size. TJ fills in the daily loss limit, drawdown, target and consistency rules, and warns you as you get close. Every value is editable, and you can type rules for any other firm.

Replay, calendar and AI in one place

Backtest with chart replay back to each market's first day, check the economic calendar before the session, and ask the AI review about your last 90 days. It only uses your own numbers and never gives trade advice.

Pay monthly, or not yet

TJ will offer monthly billing as well as yearly, and keeps a free plan. Coaches get Mentor spaces, and the community library shows strategies with results calculated from real journals, in R.

Edgewonk fits

  • Traders who want one yearly payment and every tool.
  • Traders working mainly on psychology and tilt.
  • Options and CFD traders.

TJ fits

  • Traders who want the checklist to decide before the click.
  • Futures, forex and gold traders in prop challenges.
  • Traders who prefer to start free or pay monthly.

Bringing your rules over

If you already keep setup checklists, TJ is quick to set up: copy each check into a TJ strategy, give it points, and mark the deal-breakers as vetoes. Import past trades from your broker or platform CSV, or connect MT4/MT5 auto-sync on Silvy. Your old trades won't carry grades, but every new one will.
