A free trading journal, for good

TJ's free plan needs no card and has no trial clock. Here is exactly what you get for free, what Silvy and Sapphire add, and how TJ's free option compares with others.

Free plan · No card needed · TJ is journaling software, not financial advice.

On the free plan

  • Unlimited trades and screenshots.
  • Simple or advanced strategies, and Rate It! grading before every entry.
  • Prop-firm rule alerts, with rules pre-filled for 9 programs.
  • Full analytics, 30 ready-made reports, the report builder and the P&L calendar.
  • CSV and MT4/MT5 statement file import, Binance and Bybit read-only sync.
  • Backtest with chart replay, the economic calendar and AI review of your journal.
  • Installs as an app on your phone, in English, Spanish and Turkish.

Silvy and Sapphire

 Planned price
Free$0, a free plan stays
Silvy$19 a month or $159 a year
Sapphire$59 a month or $490 a year, adds coaching students' journals

Anyone who joins by 5 December 2026 gets 30% off the first year of Silvy or Sapphire, which would make a year of Silvy $111.30. You'll hear about it in the app a week before paid plans start.

Free options compared

Several good journals have a free way in. They differ in what they let you journal:

 What's free
TJA free plan for futures, forex, gold, crypto and stocks.
TradesVizBasic plan: 3,000 executions a month, stocks only, 1 trading account. 7-day free trial of the paid plans.
TradervueA free plan with a monthly import limit; futures need a Silver or Gold plan. Trials of the paid plans at sign-up.
EdgewonkNo free plan on its pricing page; one paid plan at $197 a year with a 14-day full refund.

If you only trade stocks, TradesViz's free plan is generous. If you trade futures, forex or gold, especially in a prop challenge, TJ's free plan lets you journal all of it without paying.

Getting started in five minutes

  1. Open the demo to click around with sample trades, no sign-up needed.
  2. Create a free account and add your first account: live, prop or backtest.
  3. Import your history from a broker CSV or MT4/MT5 statement, or start fresh.
  4. Write one strategy as a checklist, simple or scored.
  5. Grade your next setup in Rate It! before you click, then log it.

What a free journal should still do well

  • Log fast. If logging takes minutes, you'll stop. TJ takes about 20 seconds: prices in, R and P&L out.
  • Think in R. Dollar P&L hides whether you risked $100 or $1,000. TJ shows R on every trade and every report.
  • Record the why. The setup grade, whether you followed your rules, your state of mind and mistakes.
  • Let you leave. Download a full backup at any time, or ask us to delete your account.
  • Keep data private. Each account can read only its own journal, screenshots are stored privately, data is stored in the EU (Frankfurt) and is never sold.

Who it's for

  • New traders building a journaling habit.
  • Prop challenge traders watching costs.
  • Experienced traders testing a new journal without a trial deadline.

Good to know

  • TJ ships updates often.
  • AI review is limited to 20 a month during the beta.
  • MetaTrader 4/5 auto-sync is part of Silvy and Sapphire; Binance and Bybit sync is free.
