How the floor is worked out

Static: floor = starting balance − max drawdown. It never moves.

End-of-day trailing: floor = highest closing balance − max drawdown, but it stops rising once it reaches the lock level (often your starting balance). Intraday swings don't move it, but touching it intraday still fails most accounts.

Intraday trailing: the same, except the high-water mark includes open profit in real time. A trade that runs +$800 and comes back to breakeven has still raised your floor by $800.

Room today is the smaller of your room to the floor and your room to the daily loss limit (daily limit + today's P&L). Dividing it by your 1R shows how many full losses you can take before something stops you.

Example: 50K account, $2,000 end-of-day trailing that locks at the starting balance. Best close so far $51,200, so the floor is $49,200. At $50,900 you have $1,700 to the floor, but you're down $300 today against a $1,000 daily limit, so your real room is $700: three full $200 losses.

Questions

What is the difference between intraday and end-of-day trailing drawdown?

An intraday trailing drawdown follows your highest balance in real time, including open profit, so a winner that reverses can lift your floor before you close it. An end-of-day trailing drawdown only moves on your closing balance. Both are usually enforced in real time: touching the floor at any moment fails the account.

When does a trailing drawdown stop trailing?

Most futures prop firms lock the floor at a fixed level once it gets there, usually your starting balance or starting balance plus $100. After that it never moves again. Some plans trail without a lock, so check your firm's rules.

Is the daily loss limit the same as the max drawdown?

No. The max drawdown (or max loss limit) ends the account. A daily loss limit, where a firm has one, usually just flattens your positions and pauses trading until the next session. Your real room today is whichever of the two is closer.

How do I work out the consistency rule?

A consistency rule caps your best day as a share of the profit target or total profit, for example 40%, 50% or 55%. Divide your best day by the percentage to see the total profit you need before you can pass. The calculator does it for you.

Does this calculator know my firm's rules?

No. It uses the numbers you type in. Rules change often, so copy them from your firm's dashboard or help center. The cheat sheet lists the main futures firms with links to their official pages.
