Prop Firm Consistency Rule Calculator

A consistency rule compares your best day with your total profit: best day ÷ consistency limit = the total profit you need to pass. Enter your target, best day and profit so far to see what you still need and the biggest day that keeps your target from rising.

The formula

Best day share = best day ÷ total profit. If it's above the limit, you aren't consistent yet.

Total profit needed = the larger of your profit target and best day ÷ limit. A $1,800 best day with a 55% rule needs $1,800 ÷ 0.55 = $3,273, not $3,000.

Daily cap = limit × profit target. Stay under it and the rule never raises your target. With a target-based rule, this cap is the rule itself.

Three worked examples

RuleTargetBest dayTotal so farNeedStill to makeDaily cap
55% of total profit$3,000$1,800$2,500$3,272.73$772.73$1,650
40% of total profit$3,000$900$2,000$3,000$1,000$1,200
50% of the target$3,000$1,600$2,600$3,000 (over the cap)$400$1,500

Example numbers only. In the first row the best day is 72% of total profit, so the target rises to $3,272.73. In the third row the $1,600 day is above the $1,500 cap: what happens next depends on the firm.

Firm presets and sources

The presets use each firm's own help page. Rules differ by plan and stage (evaluation or funded), and they change often, so check your firm before you rely on a number. Other firms are on the futures prop firm rules cheat sheet.

Topstep's Express Funded Account has a separate 40% consistency objective for payouts (largest single-day net profit ÷ total net profit), per the same page. TJ isn't affiliated with any prop firm.

Questions

How do you calculate a prop firm consistency rule?

Divide your best day by your total profit. If that share is above the firm's limit, divide your best day by the limit to get the total profit you need. Example: a $1,800 best day with a 55% rule needs $1,800 ÷ 0.55 = $3,273 in total profit.

What is the biggest day I can have without raising my target?

Multiply the consistency limit by the profit target. With a $3,000 target and a 55% rule, any day up to $1,650 keeps the target where it is. With a 40% rule it is $1,200.

Is the consistency rule measured against total profit or the profit target?

It depends on the firm. Topstep's Trading Combine and Tradeify's SELECT evaluation divide the best day by total profit, so a big day raises the profit you need. Some firms state the cap as a share of the target instead. Pick the right basis in the calculator and check your firm's own page.

Does breaking the consistency rule fail the account?

At Topstep and Tradeify, no: going over raises the profit you need (Topstep) or blocks a payout request until you're back inside the rule (Tradeify funded plans). Other firms handle it differently, so check yours.

Do losing days count?

Yes. Total profit is usually net, so a losing day lowers your total and pushes your best-day share up. Add today's loss to your total in the calculator to see the effect.
